Highly Complicated Cadaver Surgery; A 31-year-old Patient suffering from Heart Failure gets new lease of Life

A team of surgeons led by Dr. Amit Chaudhary, Chief Cardiac Surgeon at ASIAN Hospital, Faridabad performed Cadaver Heart Transplant for a 31-year-old patient.

Highly experienced surgeons of India gave a new lease of life to a 31- year old patient from Kanpur suffering from heart failure. The patient underwent a cadaver heart transplant performed by a team of surgeons at the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (Asian Hospital), Faridabad.

A 31-year-old lady suffering with breathlessness for past four years visited Asian hospital, Faridabad for diagnosis and appropriate treatment. After reviewing the patient’s condition, she was diagnosed to be suffering with heart failure. Her heart function was found to be merely 14% as against the normal of around 70% which resulted in breathlessness while performing simple daily tasks.

Speaking about the cadaver transplant, Dr. NK Pandey, Chairman & Managing Director, Asian Hospital said that, “For such patients, the only option is to go for a heart transplant. Ms. Mishra had visited several hospitals with the hope to get her condition treated, however, her condition deteriorated failing a proper advice and diagnosis.” It was during this search for proper care and treatment that she happened to visit Asian Hospital.

Sharing the details about the procedure, Dr. Amit Choudhary – Chief cardiac surgeon, Asian Hospital, Faridabad said that, “Before the transplant, the patient was under our care for more than 3 months and during this period, she was enrolled in our heart recipient registry.” NOTO, which is a centralized body that manages organs and allocates them as per the requirement. After a waiting period of two and half months we received the call for the organ from Vadodara on 5th Jan, he further added. The organ was airlifted by a chartered plane from Vadodara and flown to Asian Hospital, Faridabad.

The patient underwent an extremely complex five-hour-long surgery led by Dr. Amit Choudhary – Chief Cardiac Surgeon and supported by Dr. GaganPal Singh – Cardiac Anesthesia, Dr. Bhuvana Vijayakanthi – Cardiac Anesthesia, Dr. Anubhav Kapoor, Attending Consultant – CTVS, Mrs. Archana Thakur, Transplant Coordinator.
The patient is stable after the surgery and is recovering extremely well. According to surgeons, she will now be able to lead a normal-active life without any complications. The patient family expressed their gratitude towards Dr. Chaudhary and his team at Asian Hospital.
